A College Student Decided To Live In THIS Tiny Home Instead Of The Dorms, Wait Until You See inside!

Joel Weber is the student pictured in the photo above. He is a 25-year-old college student who spent some time traveling, as well as enrolling in school for his associate's degree. Now he's a sophomore at The University of Texas at Austin.

Before enrolling, he had a lot to think about. With rising housing costs, he needed to make a decision. Live on campus in the dorms for about 1100/month or live off campus in the downtown district for about 1900/month for a one-bedroom. Both choices were expensive, and he thought he could do better. So he came up with an idea!

Since he is a design student, and has apprenticed under a carpenter and a plumber, he decided to use that experience, coupled with some architecture books from the library, to create the plans he needed to get started! He had to begin by downsizing. He became super resourceful and used donations from people he knew to make sure he could stay within budget.

Joel was quoted saying, "I would sit in it and imagine where I'd want my bathroom," as he admired the backyard where he would be living. He worked out a deal with a family to exchange childcare and cleaning services for the opportunity to live on their land and plug in for electricity.

He even got donations from friends and family to help him with his build. He was able to get wood scraps and such from them to contribute to the materials. This, in turn, allowed him to splurge on things like a rain shower and stainless steel light covers. For the bathroom vanity, he carved a mango wood bowl and epoxied it. Now it's now the sink bowl!

He really turned this tiny space into something he could be proud of, especially as a design student! All in all, the space is only 125-square-feet, but it has everything he could ever need, and it looks better than a dorm room!

It's a great way to get his foot in the door, it's a great first project! He even attracted buyers with this build! He spent $15,000 making it, and if he chooses, he could sell it and maybe even make a profit! After a year of building, he couldn't be happier. He had to empty his savings, but the long term benefits are definitely worth it!

Wait until you see the inside, he did such a great job!
