DEOLA by Deola Sagoe releases ‘Komole Kandids’ for 2016

The first time we got a feel of Deola Sagoe’s Komole lineup of party inspired fashion was in March 2013 when the collection paid homage to legendary Nigerian womenswear designer, Shade Thomas Fahm, who according to Sagoe was such a trendsetter in the 60’s and 70’s. Komole is back again, only this time with very contemporary styles and as a series that can only mean we should expect more.

The lineup is clearly for the urban socialite. DEOLA sticks to its signature fabric popularly known as Hand-cut lace made from aso-oke to retain the luxe vibe a class of Yoruba women are accustomed to. Her silhouettes are accessible, even to the fashion novice.

By incorporating existing trends: capes, fabric blocking, colour blocking, ruffles, peplums, asymmetrical proportion and the off-the-shoulder fad, the DEOLA by Deola Sagoe label has created a series that is very practical. The impeccable execution cum finishing, presentation, facility with fabric and commercial aesthetic may have won my heart, but, I am not bowled over by some of these designs mostly because there is nothing new to it.
