Spiritualist Charged To Court For Defrauding A Woman Of N 350,000

 

A man who claims to have the ability to cure problems spiritually, has been nabbed after he defrauded a woman of a whopping amount of money N350,000.On Monday the spiritualist, Onyekachi Godfrey, appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.


Godfrey, 27, of Block 5, Jakande Housing Estate, Lekki, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and fraud.

According to the Prosecutor, ASP Ignatius Okere, the accused committed the offences on Feb. 28 at about 3:30 p.m. at his residence.

Okeke said that the accused and others at large, defrauded one Maureen Okoro, under the pretence of rendering spiritual assistance and changing naira to dollar.

He told the court that Okoro boarded a car going to Oshodi and entered into a conversation with the driver and two other passengers (Godfrey’s accomplices).

The prosecutor said that an argument ensued about a bag belonging to one of the passengers containing money, which needed spiritual cleansing before it could be spent. “They drove to the accused residence to cleanse the said bag and the accused collected N150,000 from Okoro and called her again to bring N200,000.

“The accused was later traced to his house where he was apprehended,” he said.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 312 (a) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2011.

The accused denied committing the offence and the Magistrate, Mr Ade Adefulire, granted him bail in the sum of N400,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned to April 19 2016 for further hearing.
