Soldiers killed in operation to rescue abducted expatriate

 

On Wednesday. the military personnel attached to the Operation Pulo Shield in Bayelsa State have killed one and arrested three other suspected kidnappers as part of a renewed crackdown on militancy, piracy and kidnapping in the state, the military joint task force, JTF, said.


“In a swift reaction to rescue the abducted expatriate and arrest the perpetrators who attacked troops on 5th April 2016 along Nembe Road of Bayelsa State, troops of Operation PULO SHIELD during a man hunt on the criminals on the same day along Soku Gas Plant encountered suspected militants who opened fire on them which they quickly repelled killing one suspect and wounding many, a statement by the security outfit said. “Three suspects were arrested but claimed to be victims of the pirates attack.”

The statement decried the killing of two soldiers who lost their lives as they attempted to foil the abduction of the expatriate at a gas facility yesterday.
“On 5th April 2016 suspected sea pirates attacked construction company workers along Ogbia Nembe Road in Bayelsa State. Two soldiers on security detail attached to the company put spirited efforts to stop the abduction of an expatriate working with the company but lost their lives during the encounter while an expatriate taken hostage.”
